Always Put Safety First
The most basic and important tool for LOTO is a lock with a unique key. You can use a padlock, a cable lock, or a valve lock, depending on the type of energy source you need to isolate. The lock should be durable, tamper-proof, and clearly labeled with your name and contact information.
Lockout/Tagout is required when the unexpected energization or start up (or release of stored energy ) of machines, equipment or prime movers could injure workers during cleaning, repairing, servicing, setting-up, adjusting and un-jamming.
